  • St. Louis Blues @ Buffalo Sabres – 4/14

The St. Louis Blues march into Western New York tonight to take on the Buffalo Sabres. St. Louis is 8-1-1 over its last 10 and is scoring 4.40 goals per game over that stretch. Jordan Binnington will start in net for the Blues. He brought a Stanley Cup to St. Louis in 2019 but has taken a back seat to Ville Husso this season. Binnington is not in his best form currently with a 3.79 GAA and .881 SV% in his last 5 starts, while also only winning one of those games.

Home of the New York Billy Joels

Took a few days off of NHL picks due to the start of the MLB season. Should have baseball picks soon. Back to the NHL!

Carolina Hurricanes @ New York Rangers
Carolina has clinched a playoff spot, New York should clinch theirs in the next few games. Both teams are allowing under 2.7 goals per game over their last 10. Both expected starting goalies are also having Vezina-caliber seasons. Igor Shesterkin is sporting a .935 SV% while Frederik Andersen has an equally impressive .925 SV%. Amazingly they both are allowing only 2.07 GAA on the season. These teams are very evenly matched, separated by 2 points. I think the Rangers get this done in front of their home crowd.

Enterprise Center – see a hockey game & rent a car right after

    #UPDATED#

Seattle’s inaugural season has not gone according to plan. The amazing debut season of the Vegas Golden Knights probably spoiled us into thinking any expansion team could do what they did. But alas, the Kraken reside at the depths of the Pacific Division standings, with only Davey Jones and his locker to keep them company. Meanwhile St. Louis is having another solid season. They sit in 3rd place in the Central Division, 4 points clear of the next wild card team. However, one must never rest on one’s laurels, as the Blues are being chased by four quality teams.

    Where the Flyers play

    #UPDATED#

Happy Tuesday! We have a big slate of games on the NHL docket today. Let’s begin with a game that will be studied for years to come on how NOT to play defense. On the season Columbus and Philadelphia rank 30th (3.73ga/g) and 27th (3.51ga/g) in goals against per game. Things haven’t improved for them as of late. Over their last 10 games, Columbus is allowing 4.1 ga/g and 34.4 shots against/game. Philly is letting up 4.0 ga/g and 35.3 sa/g over that same period. Wait til you get a load of the numbers the two expected starting goalies are giving up.

  • Boston Bruins @ Columbus Blue Jackets – 4/4

    #UPDATED#

Happy Monday folks! Today we will be taking a look at a matchup of two teams going in opposite directions. The Bruins have been DOMINANT over their last 10 games, going 8-2-0 with a +15 goal differential. Meanwhile the Jackets are stuck in a downward spiral. They are suffering through a 6-game losing streak, going 3-5-2 over their last 10 with a -12 GD (ouch). Boston will turn to Linus Ullmark to continue their winning ways, while Columbus will hope Elvis Merzlikins can stop its slide towards the bottom of the standings.

  • Ottawa Senators @ Detroit Red Wings – 4/1

    #UPDATED#

Happy April Fool’s Day everyone! Ok folks, let’s not over think this game. Both of these teams are obviously bad. Ottawa ranks 29th in the league in goals per game, Detroit ranks 18th. Ottawa ranks 23rd in goals against per game, Detroit is dead last. But there are talented players on both sides that can score when the situation is right. The ice hockey game being played at Little Caesar’s Arena in beautiful downtown Detroit, Michigan fits the bill.

  • Winnipeg Jets @ Toronto Maple Leafs – 3/31

    #UPDATED#

Winnipeg comes into Toronto after beating Buffalo last night in a shoot out. It was pretty clear that Kyle Connor being out reduced the ability for the Jets to maintain any offensive pressure. Toronto announced this morning that Petr Mrazek will be out six weeks with a groin injury so Erik Kallgren will be in net tonight. He has made 4 career NHL starts all occuring in 2022. Winnipeg will also likely be starting their backup Eric Comrie in net. What does this all lead to?

  • Winnipeg Jets @ Buffalo Sabres – 3/30

    #UPDATED#

Both of these teams come in playing well.  Winnipeg is 7-3-0 in its last 10 with a +6 goal differential.  Buffalo is 6-2-2 in its last 10 but is playing a lot of close games.  It has a -3 GD during that period and its last 6 games have all been decided by a goal.  So the Sabres are doing just enough to get points.  Connor Hellebuyck has been a horse in net starting 56 games already to the tune of a 2.94 GAA and .991 SV%.  Craig Anderson has been solid in 22 starts but better in his last 5 with a 3-1-1 record and 2.77 GAA.

  • NHL Picks 3/28

Seattle Kraken @ Los Angeles Kings -230 at Caesars

According to Sagarin, Seattle is the fourth worst team in the NHL.  They have won 3 of their last 5 but are 4-5-1 in the month of March, giving up 6 more goals than they have scored during that period.  LA is still expected to perform like the 20th best team in the league but are playing more like a top-15 team.  The Kings have had a strong March, going 7-4-1 and defeating Boston, Florida and Nashville along the way.  They also beat Seattle at home in their most recent game.  I like LA to do the same against the Kraken and beat them at home
